I am not sharing this story to get your respect or a pat on the back…what is more important is what God tells us to do and we obey just because that is the best reward you can have. I have be learning lately that God will give you small decisions that we will get to make the choice to listen and then walk out in obedience
Something happened to me the other day that forced me to go back and make things right… I am not sharing this story with you because I want to gain your respect, or I even want a pat on the back! Please don’t be proud of me, or even think I am greater person for doing this. I wanted to share so that it speaks to you and allows you to also seize opportunities to go back and make things right even when no one is watching.
I was just needing a few extra groceries to add to our weekend Super Bowl Plans, so this past Wednesday after school the kids and I ran into Aldi’s grocery store to snag a handful of items! Some of you can relate, when you tell yourself to run in the store for a few things and then you come out with a whole cart full? My thinking behind this is well I am already here so why not stock up on the basics! This always happens to me! Aldi’s is so perfect to snag things like butter, milk, half & half, coffee, eggs, banana’s, fruits & vegetables for a really great deal. My favorite find lately are their pineapples that cost only $1.85 and are the best I have ever eaten. Go get you one or a few like me!
The sweet girl checking me out was new and in training, so she was already having a hard day and told me how she was dropping everything. I told her not to worry about those small things, because it could always be worse. I was trying to brighten her day! I always swipe my card at the end and for some reason, I did, but it didn’t prompt me to sign. I didn’t think anything of it, because the receipt printed out. I left and went home with all my groceries.
We got home and I had a little nudge in my spirit that said check your receipt. I seriously never check my grocery receipts, matter of fact I always throw them away, because it’s not like I can write it off on my taxes..I wish! I looked at the very bottom and the girl in training had accidentally put my method of payment as CASH, so that means my credit card didn’t even go through. I surely didn’t pay her the $133.50 in Cash that it showed!
I panicked inside because my flesh was saying cool you just got free groceries, but my God was speaking louder and said you have to go back and make this right! Do you ever have your sinful flesh try to battle what you know is wrong with what you know is the right thing to do? I am sharing this to then go into this way deeper. I have been learning about listening to Gods voice at the Church our family just recently joined. Being in tune and listening to Gods voice, and how he speaks to us in our everyday life can be so much fun. When God asks you to do little things, or you have those Holy Spirit nudges do you listen and obey, or ignore them and pretend they are not there? When you listen and obey you will start to hear him speak louder and more often! The person I was ten years ago would have just been excited to have free groceries and I would have reasoned with myself that it was her fault, so oh well! The person I am choosing to be today is one that will go back even if you could get away with something! I even had a conversation with God, he asked me, “do you not trust me with even your groceries, have I not supplied all your needs?” It would be like I didn’t trust that God will provide if I chose to not obey. God see’s and so that matters more than what others see! I also didn’t want the new girl to loose her job either and I love shopping at Aldi’s!
We were going to Wednesday night Bible study at our church, so I planned to go back the next day and pay for the mistake. I learned that night that Idols in your life stand between you and God and it blocks the blessings that God has for you! I woke up and went to the store to pay and the manager was so blessed I came back, they had not even noticed the mistake, but again I can’t wait to have more opportunities to listen and obey my nudges! I pray the next time something like this happens to you, your nudges will lead you to make the right chooses!
Some of my Favorite Scriptures on Obedience in the Bible:
Isaiah 1:19 If you are willing and obedient , you shall eat the good of the land.
Jeremiah 7:23 But this command I give them: Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. And walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.’
Deuteronomy 6:18 And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may go well with you, that that you may go in and take possession of the good land that the Lord swore to give to your fathers.
