One morning she woke up different…

One morning she woke up different. Done with trying to figure out who was with her, against her, or walking down the middle because they didn’t have the guts to pick a side. She was done with anything that didn’t bring her peace. She realized that opinions were a dime a dozen, validation was for parking, and loyalty wasn’t a word, but a lifestyle. It was this day that her life changed. And not because of a man or a job but because she realized that life is way too short to leave the key to your happiness in someone else’s pocket. It was the day life began!

She woke up one day and decided to stop waiting for her life to begin and start making things happen instead.

My prayer is that you will stop searching for other’s approval or for others to like you because, honestly, it really doesn’t matter. What matters is the legacy you leave and how well you loved others along the way! Even if they are blind and can’t see your heart, then do it all for the glory of God! It matters to him where your heart is and he see’s your actions and your motives. People will let you down…I promise. I can tell you first hand, I have had some of the closest people in my life turn their backs on me. That hurt me the worst since I knew how much I had loved them and would do anything for them. You can’t change others, you can only change the way you respond to their actions.
It has made me put up walls because I would never want to go through the pain I endured from these people in my life, but God has also allowed the pain to go away and to use it for his good. My story is not over, it is just being written and I sure hope you know that God doesn’t take you to deep waters to watch you drown. He takes you out there because your enemy’s can’t swim! The waves have come to crash down on me and I have been in a deep place before because of others and how they treated me, but I know God was there in my struggles and he wiped my tears. There were many days I wouldn’t even get out of bed because I didn’t want to face the day ahead, but when I saw the light and had a few people help get me out of the depths of disappear I was in!

As I sit her at the beach relaxing with my family for the week, while listening to the waves crash right from the beautiful condo we are stay in, I am reminded of the peace that has come into my life when I stopped to listen to only his voice in my life and not the loud noises from others, the world, or social media. It can be so loud and so distracting when you are focused on pleasing the world and not God. I was working till 3AM a job that caused me so much stress to hit numbers, always have to perform, make sure everyone was happy with me and would have done anything to help my people. However, God told me the best thing I could do was to let go and let God! The stress it caused me over the years was taking my health, making me not able to eat most foods I once loved, and wearing me down quickly. I decided it was time to take life back and not live it for the approval of others.

Some things I also realized after being gone building a business for over 7 years was how much my kids were pushing me away and how painful that was to feel and watch. I decided they deserved more of my time and wanted them to feel the love I had for them in a much better way. My main reason for slowing down in my booming business was to focus on the people that were around me and deserved my love. I also learned that I gave the world to the people I was building and took time away from the most important people God entrusted to me to build. Then when so many turned their backs on me, I woke up and decided it was time to finally focus and love on the one’s that were still there desiring my love and acceptance. I have witnessed walls being torn down, hearts changed, and my loved one’s will be changed forever and will go on to build a much better generation because I am raising them with my time and love.

Don’t look back and see things you could have changed and not make changes today! You will never know what tomorrow brings but you can surely live life well today! I don’t want to look back and think how I could have been their for my kids and I decided to build a million dollar business instead. My heart changed and I have never looked back that one day I woke up different.

So how does an everyday sort of person “make things happen”? You had contacts and the resources to start the home purchase and renovation for your house flip, for example. I don’t have those. How do I do things to make things happen? How did you know THAT was the right thing to make happen?

Lisa my dear today a picture popped up of us 3 years ago at the Virginia Beach Conference and I just love how time has passed but our friendship remains even stronger now! I hope you know that I believe in you and how if you put your mind to something it will come together! I can totally help you with the finding of a home to flip because this one was a total God story! I promise it has not been easy and has gotten even harder here lately but I do know that with a Vision and God he will bring it all together so someone will have a beautiful home~!

Not sure house flipping is my thing but was asking in general I think. But wow! Think of a team of women working together to flip! That’s an awesome thought! Thanks for your response. Made me cry. Needed that today.

Sarah, this is so beautiful … you have really grown in ways that are the envy of many (although I know “envy” isn’t what you are trying to convey) … but just your way of true soul searching, prayer, listening to God, and putting all the lessons you have learned in life as well as your natural gifts and abilities into each day. LDIBBLE asks how do we “make things happen” … I think the first thing to do is to find your gifts and passions and go for it! For you there are so many gifts to choose from but the difference I’ve seen over the years compared to so many others is your “DRIVE” and ‘ENERGY” that help you reach your goals … and you get that drive and energy from taking care of yourself! I love how you said to do it “to the Glory Of God” and why not? He is the one that has given us all our gifts and abilities … some of us just haven’t found them yet! :> You are truly talented and I have enjoyed reading your blog, your honesty, and how you have opened yourself up. You are truly a STAR! I love you, NanaK

How did I miss this awesome post until now? Thanks for for sharing your heart with us Sarah. The part that struck me is “stop searching for others approval” , also the part that others hurt you so much… I am sorry that happened to you but I am glad that you have come back stronger and more focused on what is important than ever! ( AKA: your family) God bless, Martine

This is exactly what I needed to read. I am going through a really emotional time in my life right now. Almost on the verge of a quarter life crisis and this has pointed me in the direction that I need to go. Thank you so much for your words of wisdom. 🙂

Did you write the beginning section yourself, or are you quoting something you read? I have seen that whole section ending with putting the key to your happiness in some else’s pocket posted on many pages, always with “author unknown”. Are you the author?

I have the same question about authorship. This is so beautiful, I want to make sure I credit it properly when I quote it. Are you the author, Sarah? I hope so. But, if not, I’d like to know how to credit it. Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece.

Did you write this – The first paragraph, I mean? I want to use it but I want to have the right attribution. I’ve seen this attributed to Shannon Kaiser…I don’t quote without attribution.

Like NZINGA has written, I have also seen the passage you used in the beginning section, ending with “…putting the key to your happiness in some else’s pocket…” posted in many places, always with “author unknown”. Are you the author? I WANT TO GIVE THE AUTHOR CREDIT!
